Sustainability IS Sexy Blog: Simple Ways You Can Become More Sustainable in Your Everyday Life
Rrrrrr-remix!
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Alexa, the human (not Amazon’s AI) behind the newly minted “Sustainability is Sexy” Blog.
Why is Sustainability Sexy?
Because it IS.
Just kidding, I’ll give you a real answer.
Over the past year, I have been trying to figure out a way to reach more people and teach the public, mostly Americans, about sustainability.
I wasn’t sure what direction to go or if anyone would even care…
Then it dawned on me….
*I* care. And that’s enough.
Sustainability, to me, is about thinking critically about your choices.
Our everyday habits, our purchases, the seemingly small actions that make up our everyday life…
And thinking about how those actions today affect the generations of tomorrow.
It’s sexy to think about how our actions affect more than ourselves.
It’s sexy to slow down and consider the consequences of our purchases.
Sustainability is sexy to me because it’s sexy to care.
We GAF and that’s a beautiful thing…
So with that being said, here’s what to expect.
Each month I will post a blog about a sustainability topic equipped with actionable steps and interesting findings
Expect stories, references to research/other articles, and for me to get it wrong at times…
What can I say? Nobody is perfect.
In fact, sustainability is not about perfection - quite the opposite.
Sustainability is a journey, not an ideal to reach.
You can never be 100% sustainable (especially living in an urban environment) or at least in the way our current modern living allows.
However, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to live more consciously.
Just like in personal development, it’s not the big actions that move the needle the most…
It’s the small ones, like reading 5 pages a day, meditating for 10 minutes, or adding one vegetable to each meal.
So before I leave you, I want you to determine your WHY for sustainability…
I find having a “why” for any new habit change helps you stay on track when you feel defeated or indifferent towards your goals.
My WHY is that I want to be able to enjoy nature in its abundance beyond a lifetime - I want the next generation and all the ones after that to have nature to look forward to…
